Our Story

Telemon is a 240-acre, boutique property situated in the heart of South East Queensland’s premiere thoroughbred precinct on the banks of the Logan River. With an established history of results which are arguably unparalleled for a farm of its size, the stud was re-launched in June 2018 as Telemon Thoroughbreds by Queenslanders Dan & Rae Fletcher.

History

Officially licensed in 1844, Telemon was the original name of the 89,600-acre parcel of land upon which today’s farm sits.

The property was first developed as ‘Noble Park’ in the 1990s by renowned breeders Peter and Wendy Moran and operated under various names following the Moran’s decision to downsize some years later.

Across its history, what we now know as Telemon has been home to many notable stallions including Success Express, Mossman and Written Tycoon (all of whom are responsible for Golden Slipper winners) as well as Bel Esprit, sire of the immortal mare Black Caviar. In addition, Monashee Mountain and Hotel Grand both contributed to the honour roll by conceiving Group 1 winners here.

Telemon’s foundation stallion Sidestep is now, remarkably, a member of the elite club to have sired a Golden Slipper winner achieving the feat from his first crop which were conceived at Darley’s Kelvinside base.

Sidestep’s unfolding feats add to the astonishing track record of this relatively small farm as a breeding ground of champions. Headlined by superstar of the track and breeding barn Zoustar, Queensland legend Buffering, and superstar filly and multi-millionaire Gold Edition, pound-for-pound, acre-for-acre, few thoroughbred nurseries in the world can boast a track record to rival Telemon.

This history is a testament not only to the unique advantages Telemon affords those raised on our hills, but to the breeders who have filled these paddocks with quality bloodstock.

The first yearling bred by the Fletcher family and raised by Joe Heather on Telemon was the Stratum colt from Steal My Love. Now named Ashbaal, this colt caught the eye of Angus Gold on behalf of Shadwell Stud at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. A simply stunning individual, the $460,000 colt is the best possible advertisement for the renowned Telemon yearling hills.
