Red Resistance

Red Resistance burst onto the scene as a January 2yo, immediately stamping his class.

On debut he gave observers a taste of his raw talent, bursting clear from top 2yo STEEL CITY (just 0.5L off LEARNING TO FLY in the G3 Widden Stakes and winner of the G3 Magic Night by some 2.7L) in a dominant display.

Two weeks later, RED RESISTANCE announced himself as a leading Golden Slipper chance, lowering the colours of undefeated colt KING’S GAMBIT (G2 Roman Consul winner and G1 Golden Slipper 3rd) as well as eventual Slipper Winner Shinzo, who was on debut.
Tulloch lodge set their star colt on the same path as their Slipper winners Farnan and Vancouver, giving him a five week break into the G2 Todman Stakes. In that race, RED RESISTANCE lost no admirers as he was worn down late by outstanding colt Cylinder. Cylinder of course went on to run 2nd as Slipper favourite before eventually taking out the G1 Newmarket Hcp as a 3yo, defeating champion older mare IMPERATRIZ.

“We came out of the Todman convinced we were on track for the Slipper” said co-trainer Adrian Bott. “Red Resistance was out to 1,200m for the first time that day with five weeks between runs. That told late against a quality colt who was race fit in Cylinder. The Todman certainly wasn’t our grand final and with the improvement we had in our colt we were confident we were on track for Slipper day”.

Fatefully, Red Resistance was unable to take his place in the Golden Slipper being withdrawn race morning with a high temperature.

Dan Fletcher Comments

“RED RESISTANCE was an outstanding juvenile and everything about him said he would go on to Group 1 level as an older horse. It’s such a shame for his connections his career was curtailed. He represents a huge opportunity for not just Queensland breeders but anyone Australia wide to tap into a colt of this quality at a fraction of the fee commanded by his peers.

The big thing for us is what he brings as a type. It’s not easy for a colt to stand out when you line them up against the elite of the elites that populate the best farms in the country, but this bloke does. He’s an incredibly attractive horse and we’re privileged to have him”.
Gai waterhouse Comments

RED RESISTANCE is one of the most handsome, dynamic, and fast 2-year-olds that Adrian and I have trained. He had blistering speed and was precocity plus. He was the dominant 2-year-old of his generation and we could not have been more confident of his chances leading into the 2023 Group 1 Golden Slipper.”

Sir Owen Comments

“RED RESISTANCE is a horse dear to me and Go Bloodstock. We purchased his dam HEATHERLY specifically to visit RUSSIAN REVOLUTION. Highly rated as a yearling, he delivered on the racetrack and was unlucky to miss the Golden Slipper when Gai rated him a winning chance. We believe in RED RESISTANCE and will support him accordingly. We ask Queensland breeders to join us on this journey and share in his success.”
